Livingston Finch has been a professional helper and teacher for over 35 years, in the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island. He has worked in various childcare settings after taking a BA in Honours English from the University Of Victoria. He went on to complete his Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology in Family Therapy at UBC. He founded the Institute of Strategic Therapy in Burnaby and conducted courses on various approaches to working with children, youth, and families. Livingston taught in the Child and Youth Care Program at Malaspina University College in Nanaimo for 12 years and recently retired. He presently has a private counselling practice in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island. He remains consumed by a passion for experiencing connections with others and understanding how this commonplace, everyday miracle takes place.
In the summer of 1978, Livingston Finch received his training in NLP at a month long intensive workshop led by founders, John Grinder and Richard Bandler.
"Although NLP as an approach to working with people is often exercised in a mechanical and manipulative way, it does bring to light many of the
skills developed by the great therapists; Virginia Satir, Fritz Perls and Milton Erickson," says Liv.
"I found this training very useful in developing my own style of working with people, without trying to copy any of those great helpers. NLP directed me towards different ways of paying attention and forming relationships, which is essential for supporting growth and development in self and others."
